Memories Made at Thanksgiving 2015

Things got busy in the kitchen as I felt my way through making some of my favorite, southern-style holiday recipes. I mean, all my life they’ve been my favorite to eat, but I was never in charge. Mama Sunshine was all over it! Everything would arrive on my plate warm and delicious right on time as if by magic. Years later I realize how magical Mama is. She’s 70% water and 31% magic. Her gravy made you want to spoon it by the mouthful, dribble it down your chin.

Somehow despite my best efforts a few things ended up out of order, but we reigned it in just in time to feed all the hungry bellies. Everything was SOOO good. I could tell cause Matt’s plate was hoovered clean in record time, Garret doubled down, Jared enjoyed the spoils of the last crescent roll, and Bethany was pondering seconds.

The spread: spiral-cut, honey-roasted ham, Bethany’s amazing sausage stuffing, Hearty Party Mac&Cheese (note: it’s extra orange on top cause I sprinkled it with zesty seasoned salt. Looks a little crazy, tastes hella yummy), Lemon/Pineapple/Guava punch (with optional vodka kick), sweet potato casserole, crescent rolls with honey and gravy. Not pictured are Bethany’s outlandishly delicious peanut butter chocolate truffles which did not last long. They were victims of their own deliciousness.

And before we knew it, all the plates were empty.

The tradition in my family is to put up the Christmas tree on Thanksgiving day while Mama cooks, but I was in the kitchen this year. To help get the holiday decoration vibe going I enlisted the help of Jared, Bethany and Garrett. Casual creativity at the snowflake station.

I’m thankful for family and friends who make this and every day bright, to have a warm place to call home and for my Honeybee who did all the dishes and gave all the keeses. And thank you, for visiting me here at Wrays of Sunshine. It’s truly a gift to be able to share times like these.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This year I’m making ham, collard greens and my special Hearty Party Mac & Cheese: A truly southern Thanksgiving feast. And even though we’ll miss all our Florida, Tennessee and Walla Walla family today, we’ll definitely be surrounded by the best Seattle has to offer.

Cheers to you and yours!

IVA Senior Success

Well folks, last night was the big night. Our opening was a huge, fantastic success! Thank you to everyone who made it out to Sand Point Gallery. Our food committee kept the yummy snacks coming while patrons wandered through each exhibit.

I overheard some great conversation. There was truly something for everyone.

The lesson learned? The big takeaway: there is an insane amount of work that goes into something like this. We’re given a truly unique experience in the IVA Senior Studio class as we struggle through our own process while also seeing our classmates through it as well. There are some truly talented, hard-working individuals in my class. I’ve learned so much just watching them be awesome.

Thanks again for coming out. It was truly a pleasure to see all your beautiful faces.
