Brianna: Wray of Sunshine

Hey y’all,

I’ve emerged from the finals fog to share the last of our Identity & the Moving Image assignment. I present Brianna: Wray of Sunshine

My classmates gave me written critiques which were mostly unanimous in wanting the music quieter and my voiceover louder. Agreed. I struggled with the levels and rushed it a bit. One person was concerned that I wasn’t wearing headphones. But, I assure you, they’re on. I’ve got these wee bluetooth ones. You just can’t see them under all the glitter…and hair. My professor noted that the entire second half of the video could be omitted (or made into its own video). I also agree with that, however in our individual meetings before filming I had two very different ideas and she suggested I combine them. Plus, with graduation approaching I thought it more important to document this workspace and the lovely people who populate it with life. Is it the best video I have done or will do? No, but it’s a collaboration  I am proud of.

Many special thanks to Ellen, Jeanne, Ellen and Matt who helped with ideation and filming. No thanks to Adobe Premiere which deleted my footage AGAIN and wasted 3 hours of editing time and 3 ounces of my sanity. I’m officially on team Final Cut Pro.

What do you think? Are you into video? Do you have any tips on software for me? I’ve used iMovie and Premiere, but Final Cut Pro looks similar enough to figure out. We’ll see!

xo,

You Can & You Will

Yup. It’s the difficult thing. Once again, the hard way. The high road. Or the low road. Whichever one you come out too sweaty for the circumstances with scratches and cuts along your ankles and soul. But uphill battles are crucial for building strong calf muscles, it’s 100% worth it in the end. You can and you will succeed. If it is at all possible, you’ll get it done. It’ll be in the bag and you can take that bag to the bank. You could put that bag in your pipe and smoke it.

And if it be impossible, then let it be. Something better will be along just after it. That’s how it works. Adventures come in waves.

I believe in you, boo!

Makes Me Smile

Sh*t That Makes Me Smile: When Seattleites Get a Lil Sun

You can see the satisfaction. All of a sudden—literally in the middle of cycling—everything and everywhere is a beach worthy of a good lay-out. I’m sure its the Floridian in me, but I just find it so endearing. Especially when I get the Weather Channel warnings to stay hydrated (which we all should, I know, but still). Everybody’s got a little light under the sun! Look at this guy ↓ makeshift lounge.

Real Talk

Real Talk: I Smile Because I Want To

This post has been in the drafts folder for a while. It’s an awkward subject to broach, but here goes:

I’m happy. I’m really really happy. There’s an abundance of blessings and luck and warm fuzzies in my life, yo. It’s true. And I have a lot of extra love. Unless I’m fully acting in a play or something I cannot will not poker face…unless I’m actually playing poker…which I’m not good at. You can tell what’s on my mind. And it’s pretty damn positive. Mama Sunshine says I was born with this affliction. And, you know, I just have to take it one day at a time.

If you’ve traveled through Seattle you may’ve heard of a little something called the Seattle Chill, meaning that people here are apparently all bottled up inside and don’t talk or greet each other. Further that it can be hard to make friends or create meaningful relationships.

Bollocks, says Sunshine. In fact, I find quite the opposite to be true. People are so friendly and open up so readily almost everywhere I go. Some might then say that the Chill exists and is merely counteracted by my southern hospitality. Yeah, maybe, but that only proves the Chill can be overcome. So there.

Dark Side of the Sun

In general, being a smiley happy-go-lucky sort of lady works out however every once in a while I’ll notice that some people will be less honest with me when they don’t have something cheerful to say. It’s as though they don’t want to bring me down, but it’s only by sharing our joy and pain that we can lift each other up.

I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, to make eye contact with everyone you pass for a solid day week and see if you don’t feel like smiling, too.

Love & Light,

Everyday I’m Hustlin’

What’s got your hands busy just now? Me? I’ve got a color studies composition itching to get crossed off the to-do list. This past couple weeks I’ve been pretty bogged down by being so busy, but you know, I don’t have to be. Ultimately if I work hard everything will be fine. And I do like to work hard! Like a trooper. So if this quarter had me snowed under before, it will not now.

Of course there’s only so much of that tra-la-la one should profess to the internet with said work still unfinished, but believe me, I’m all over it!  I just took a short break to create this illustration, because. Internet.

My Philosophy, Age 29

Celebrate your triumphs and victories over evil or any other adversity that comes barreling down the lifeline at you. Tell everyone exactly why they’re awesome when they’re awesome. Don’t reward bad behavior. Put energy into everything you can without falling into malnutrition. Remember that there is always sunshine. Even though our perception from this particular corner of the universe makes it appear to rise and set, really, the sun is always shining.

Remember that because you’re made of the same stuff.

If there are tulips, dahlias or lilies, get them. If you’re wondering whether or not you can do this, you’re wasting time you could be doing this. Knowing that you can do something better now based on what you’ve done before does not make your previous work inferior. Next one will be better, though. Always be spongy, soaking up moments until you have a history you can be proud of. Rest. Ask for what you want. Be what’s next. If someone asks you if you’re okay and you’re not okay, don’t say you’re okay. Telling the truth is not an excuse to be mean. Expound the vocabulary in your repertoire until you can concisely convey an idea, then let that shit flow seamlessly into everyday vernacular. Fill all the world with art. Start at home. Give big hugs. When you think you’ve squeezed enough, squeeze just a bit more.

Be thankful because you have all the best family and all the best friends.
